Application of Noether’s theorem allows physicists to gain powerful insights into any general theory in physics, by just analyzing the various transformations that would make the form of the laws involved invariant. For example:

  • the invariance of physical systems with respect to spatial translation (in other words, that the laws of physics do not vary with locations in space) gives the law of conservation of linear momentum;
  • invariance with respect to time translation gives the well-known law of conservation of energy

假如，我只有三秒鐘的時間，去教你們讀書方法，我會告訴你們，近乎所有讀書問題的終極原因，都是「不夠純熟」。

我所教你們的讀書方法，例如「魔法筆記」和「魔法時間表」，其實目的都是，處理學問時，用最短的時間，去達至最高的熟練程度。中學時代的成績競爭，其實不是「鬥聰明」，而是「鬥熟」。

兩個中學生的成績相差，主要取決於，他們對課程內容熟練程度之別，而不是才智。

Powers of Ten

The Powers of Ten films are two short American documentary films written and directed by Charles and Ray Eames. Both works depict the relative scale of the Universe according to an order of magnitude (or logarithmic scale) based on a factor of ten, first expanding out from the Earth until the entire universe is surveyed, then reducing inward until a single atom and its quarks are observed.

你會發現，（假設你是初學者，）腦中的句子，都是一些很傻的句子，例如：

I want to go home.

I don’t know what to do.

不過，句子傻並不是問題，因為，小學程度的句子，正正是日常生活所需的句子。句子形式複雜，反而會令講者不順，聽者不明，絕對有礙溝通。句子傻不單不是問題，反而係好事，重要的是，你要保證基本文法不要錯，例如，要分清 have/has 之別。

6. 英文口語進化的同時，你的廣東話亦會退化。但不用擔心，因為，考試後，只要你花五分鐘講廣東話，原本的廣東話功力，自然全數歸來，毫無遺漏。

這段改編自 2010 年 4 月 10 日的對話。
 

有時，「副作用」的作用，比「正作用」的作用還要大。我戲稱這個現象為「The non-side-effect-ness of side-effects」（重點副作用）。

例如，中三以上的高深數學，一般人在長大後，很少會直接用到。但是，由研習數學所煉成的精密思考，卻一生受用。「精密思考」是工作和日常生活的必須品，雖然「高深數學」不是。

想訓練「精密思考」，沒有比「研習數學」更好的方法，幾乎。

流動電視

「流動電視牌照」本身講明，不受廣播條例規管。

邏輯上，原本受廣播條例規管的牌照，才有機會「觸犯」廣播條例。

但是，通訊局現在的講法是，因為 hktv 的流動電視，「觸犯」了廣播條例，所以現在又要受廣播條例規管。

那是不是顛倒邏輯？

4. 你會發現，你用英語思考時，速度遠低過用母語。那其實是好事，因為那會令你的思考，變得冷靜和清晰。

平日你說話時，即使用母語，有時會不暢順，主要的原因是，你企圖在同一秒中，講超過一個字。兩個字相撞，自然會阻礙說話的流程。那反而會大大減低，你說話的速度。

同理，平日你思想時，有時會不暢順，主要的原因是，你的腦海在同一秒中，彈超過一個意念出來。眾在意念相撞，自然會令你困擾不安，思想混亂。

但是，如果你要自己用英文來思考，因為英文不是你的母語，你的思想會被迫慢下來，眾多字眼只會逐一浮現，再多意念也不會同時彈出。那樣，你的思想會形成一條思路。你的混亂思想會立刻化成，有條理的思考。

我在 2009 年時，因為企圖繼續升學，所以需要報考 IELTS。因為再上一次報考英文的公開試，已經是在再十年前的事，即是 1999 年，所以，要我再準備一次，一個英文的公開試，我覺得十分煩擾。再加上，在以往每一次的英文公開試中，我的口語部分，都是僅僅合格，所以我格外擔心，在 IELTS 的口語部分，成績會過低，導致我的升學大計告吹。

我驚恐到在考試之前一個月，不敢用中文思考。我迫自己用英文思考，做成全天候練習英文的效果。練習了三個星期後，我發覺我的英文對話流利了，而中文（廣果話）反而退化了一點。那就證明我的計劃成功。

結果，我在 IELTS 口語部分的成績，不再是「僅僅合格」，而是「差一點滿分」。

The good part is that the game is a genre in itself. There are no similar games in this world.

The bad part is that a few levels, such as “Falling Forward” and “Laying the Foundation”, do not make any sense. They exist just for wasting the players’ time.

Whenever you get stuck, don’t try harder. Just consult a walkthrough.
