他說，妻子能夠經常作伴，老年有依靠，為家庭帶來音樂與女性閒話，但同時男人會失去自由，去哪兒也受限制，也不能通宵達旦地看書，他也要花錢在子女身上，結果少了買書。但他承認，人一定要有伴，以免孤獨終老。
