Half an Hour 2.5
Timetable for high school study 10.4
| Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday | |
| 3 hours | Physics | Applied Maths | Pure Maths | Physics | Applied Maths |
| 1 hour | Chinese | English | Chinese | English | Chinese |
| 1 hour | |||||
| 3 hours | Pure Maths | Physics | Applied Maths | Pure Maths | Physics |
| 3 hours | Physics |
| 30 minutes | Physics |
| 30 minutes | Physics |
| 30 minutes | Physics |
| 30 minutes | Physics |
| 30 minutes | Physics |
| 30 minutes | Physics |
| 30 minutes |
| 30 minutes |
| 30 minutes |
| 30 minutes |
| 30 minutes |
| 30 minutes |
(LWT etc: )
| 30 minutes | Physics |
| 30 minutes | Physics |
| 30 minutes | Physics |
| 30 minutes | Physics |
| 30 minutes | Physics |
| 30 minutes | Physics |
| 30 minutes | Physics |
| 5 minutes | |
| 30 minutes | Physics |
| 5 minutes | |
| 30 minutes | Physics |
| 5 minutes | |
| 30 minutes | Physics |
| 5 minutes | |
| 30 minutes | Physics |
| 5 minutes | |
| 30 minutes | Physics |

Thus, the relationship between aprioricity, necessity, and analyticity is not easy to discern. However, most philosophers at least seem to agree that while the various distinctions may overlap, the notions are clearly not identical: the a priori/a posteriori distinction is epistemological, the analytic/synthetic distinction is linguistic, and the necessary/contingent distinction is metaphysical.

So how do you pick good programmers if you’re not a programmer? I don’t think there’s an answer. I was about to say you’d have to find a good programmer to help you hire people. But if you can’t recognize good programmers, how would you even do that?

Like all nice physical theories, we can in principle derive everything about our theory of superstrings once we know the formula for the action. For bosonic strings, the action is very simple. As time passes, a string traces out a 2-dimensional surface in spacetime called the “string worldsheet”. The action is just the area of this worldsheet.

* Clarke’s Law of Revolutionary Ideas: Every revolutionary idea — in science, politics, art, or whatever — seems to evoke three stages of reaction. They may be summed up by the phrases:
(1) “It’s completely impossible — don’t waste my time”;
(2) “It’s possible, but it’s not worth doing”;
(3) “I said it was a good idea all along.”
— The Promise of Space (1968); This and similar statements attributed to Mahatma Gandhi and J. B. S. Haldane may ultimately be derived from a statement attibuted to Arthur Schopenhauer:
All truth passes through three stages.
First it is ridiculed.
Second it is violently opposed.
And third it is accepted as self-evident.

| Duration | Subject |
|---|---|
| 3 hours |
| 1 hour |
| 1 hour | |
| 3 hours |
Physics → Pure Maths → Applied Maths → Physics → Pure Maths → …
| DURATION | Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 hours | Physics | A. Maths | |||
| 1 hour | Language | Language | Language | Language | Language |

| 3 hours | Physics | A. Maths | P. Maths | ||
| 1 hour | Language | Language | Language | Language | Language |
| 1 hour | |||||
| 3 hours | P. Maths | Physics | A. Maths |
| DURATION | Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 hours | Physics | A.Maths | P.Maths | Physics | A.Maths |
| 1 hour | Chinese | English | Chinese | English | Chinese |
| 1 hour | |||||
| 3 hours | P.Maths | Physics | A.Maths | P.Maths | Physics |

Beyond black holes
Hawking and Page showed that black hole thermodynamics is more general than black holes, that cosmological event horizons also have an entropy and temperature.
More fundamentally, ‘t Hooft and Susskind used the laws of black hole thermodynamics to argue for a general Holographic Principle of nature, which asserts that consistent theories of gravity and quantum mechanics must be lower dimensional. Though not yet fully understood in general, the holographic principle is central to theories like the AdS/CFT correspondence.

So, simplicity is key, and they purport to write such a system in a mere 20K LOC. To that end, they propose a sort of great unification theory of particles (homogeneous, extensible objects) and fields (the messages exchanged by myriad objects)—well, yes, it’s just a metaphor, but you can see it in action in the paper, applied to images and animations. The report also explains how the physical metaphor is completed with a proper simulation of the concept of time.

Here it is: I like to find (a) simple solutions (b) to overlooked problems (c) that actually need to be solved, and (d) deliver them as informally as possible, (e) starting with a very crude version 1, then (f) iterating rapidly.
If you work on overlooked problems, you’re more likely to discover new things, because you have less competition. If you deliver solutions informally, you (a) save all the effort you would have had to expend to make them look impressive, and (b) avoid the danger of fooling yourself as well as your audience. And if you release a crude version 1 then iterate, your solution can benefit from the imagination of nature, which, as Feynman pointed out, is more powerful than your own.
